American Forces Struck a 'Large Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Stated Lacking Offering Details.

Ex-President Trump has asserted that American military assets struck a "large facility" in the South American country recently. Yet, the former president offered no details on the exact purpose or site of the target, and officials have issued no additional clarification from his team.

Unspecific Comments Offered In a Radio Show

"US forces just destroyed – I don't know if you heard – they have a major complex, where the vessels originate. Two nights ago, we destroyed it. So we struck them very hard," Trump reportedly said to GOP supporter and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Possible Implications of a Confirmed Attack

If a US strike is confirmed, it would represent the first ground target hit since the US Department of Defense began a expansion of US strike forces in the region to disrupt narco-trafficking operations that the former administration asserts operate under the authority of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

This original purpose of the military buildup has since morphed into a quarantine aimed at stopping the country's crude oil shipments.

Online Video and Official Statements

Trump has for weeks warned that US forces are prepared to widen the military campaign by hitting objectives inside Venezuela, a move that would in theory require legislative approval.

Online video shared online on 24 December appeared to show an detonation said to be from an industrial zone in Zulia state. However, the video or the facility has not been corroborated.

An source reportedly told a media outlet that the president was referring to a drug facility in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Military Situation

The Venezuelan government has issued no statement on the incident Trump referenced. Furthermore, there have been no verified accounts from Venezuela about it.

The deployment of American forces in the area – a stance certain officials have referred to as a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the largest naval operation of his time in office.

Sources have stopped short from describing the action as a full blockade, but have acknowledged that approximately 15,000 troops are deployed across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a aircraft carrier group, advanced fighter jets, and Coast Guard cutters to enforce existing sanctions.
