Each time a prominent honors show nears, there’s always a clamor for the addition of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. So would board games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely that year
- Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
- Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.
The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
