The anticipation around The Game Awards was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
